Bühler UK Limited is looking for an enthusiastic, organised and motivated Material Controller Apprentice to join its team in London. This is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn, gain valuable hands-on experience and develop practical skills in procurement, purchasing, inventory and supply chain operations within a global engineering company.

You’ll work alongside experienced professionals to help ensure the right materials are available when they are needed. You’ll gain an understanding of how purchasing, material planning and supply chain activities support production and customer requirements.

This apprenticeship is ideal for someone who enjoys working with information, solving problems, staying organised and working as part of a team.

As a Material Controller Apprentice, you’ll learn how to:

• Support material requirements based on forecasts and sales order demand.

• Manage the purchasing file and provide material updates.

• Attend daily production line walks and identify new material shortages.

• Take action to expedite materials where required.

• Highlight and escalate material issues that could affect production.

• Release material purchase orders in line with the material requirements plan.

• Respond to stores queries relating to quantity issues.

• Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) for returns, replacements and credit notes.

• Work closely with colleagues across purchasing, production, stores and supply chain.

• Help identify opportunities to improve processes and material availability.

You’ll complete the Procurement and Supply Assistant Level 3 apprenticeship through High Ridge Training Ltd.

Your training will include:

• Work-based training supported by a tutor from High Ridge Training.

• Online apprenticeship training.

• Development of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a qualified Material Controller.

• Training in procurement and supply processes.

• Practical experience gained directly within the workplace.

• Successful completion of the Level 3 Procurement and Supply Assistant qualification.

• At least 20% of your working hours dedicated to training or studying.

You should have:

• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and similar IT applications.

• An interest in procurement, purchasing, materials management or supply chain.

• An understanding of, or willingness to learn, ERP and MRP systems.

• Good problem-solving skills.

• The ability to identify and drive improvements.

• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Knowledge of ERP systems, particularly SAP, would be an advantage.

An understanding of production processes would also be beneficial, although full training will be provided as part of the apprenticeship.

• £18,525 salary in the first year, in line with the applicable Apprentice Rate thereafter.

The site is located in the London Docklands and serves as Bühler UK’s Optical Sorter Business Unit headquarters and manufacturing facility.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you’ll have gained a recognised Level 3 qualification alongside valuable workplace experience in procurement, purchasing, materials management and supply chain operations.

This could provide opportunities to progress into roles such as Material Controller, Purchasing Assistant, Procurement Assistant or Supply Chain professional within Bühler or the wider industry.
